Accountant and CPA firm website accessibility: portals, forms and PDFs
Accessibility fixes for accounting, bookkeeping, tax-prep and CPA firm websites: client portal links, document upload forms, tax checklists and PDFs.
Accounting firm websites are mostly about trust and getting documents in: a services page, a contact form, a client portal link and a stack of PDF checklists. Those last three are where accessibility problems usually sit.
1. Client portal and payment links
"Client Login" is often an icon or an image button. Give it real text, and make sure it's reachable with the Tab key. If the portal itself is a third-party product, ask the vendor for their accessibility conformance report and offer a phone or email alternative.

2. Document upload and intake forms
Each field needs a visible label. File-upload buttons need a clear name ("Upload your W-2"), and error messages should say what's wrong ("File must be a PDF under 10 MB").
3. Tax organizers and checklists
Scanned or untagged PDFs read as blank images to a screen reader. Publish the checklist as a web page too, or provide a tagged PDF. See accessible PDFs.
4. Tables of fees or deadlines
Use a real HTML table with header cells, not an image or a layout made of columns.
5. Team photos and credentials
Alt text can be the person's name and role ("Maria Ortiz, CPA, partner"). Keep credentials and licence numbers in text.
