Law firm website accessibility: a practical checklist
Law firm websites often combine elegant low-contrast design, PDF resources and live-chat widgets, all common sources of barriers.
Checklist
- Consultation forms: visible labels, clear error messages, no puzzle CAPTCHAs. See accessible forms.
- Contrast: thin grey serif text on white often fails 4.5:1.
- Attorney bios: headings per attorney, and alt text with their name.
- PDF guides and articles: publish as HTML pages, or as tagged PDFs.
- Live chat widgets: check they open with the keyboard, have labelled buttons, and don't cover focused content (WCAG 2.2 Focus Not Obscured).
- Link text: replace "click here" and "read more". See links and buttons.
- Keyboard test the whole site: 5-minute method.
